Hello Chris

I didn't think you were being critical, my fault, I was just being facetious :(

Your point is well made and I hope it is indeed something simple like that. It
is just that the
symptoms are typical of power management problems, which are notorious with
w98. By leaving it on
all night it will at some stage , according the settings, will go into standby
mode to save power
consumption etc. A movement of the mouse or hitting a key 'should' restore it
but more often than
not it doesn't and the screen remains blank, no mouse, no keyboard. The only
option is a re-boot.
It is simple to change the PM settings, easier than changing the monitor so
best to try this first I
would think. To be honest, there is no way I would leave my computer switched
on all night and the
problem could probably be resolved by turning it off when Matt goes off to bed
and turning it back
on the morning.

Your own problem seems unusual but not a lot to go on really unless you wish to
elaborate

Sorry for the confusion :(

Rupert, I wasn't intending to be critical because, the software could
still be a possibility. In my situation, after a couple hours, I am not
able to send or, receive e-mail or, access web pages. I know it is
something to do with the settings, either specific to Netscape or,
specific to the physical connection. I have not called the cable
company about it because, it is an annoyance I have learned to live with.

The reason I suggested the Power Supply is because, he had said that it
worked the previous night then, in the morning, nothing worked. I
almost suggested he get his hands on a spare monitor to, test the video
card and, see if it was specific to the video card or, monitor. I
thought about nothing working....I am wondering, outside of the Power
Supply if, the plug going from the Power Supply to the wall is loose, at
either end.

Christopher
