I don't recall the initial question, but it sounds like you are looking for a way to clear the temporary files.
I use History Kill 2003 on XP Pro with Firefox and Thunderbird. It works great. You can program it to clear out the files of your choice e.g., temps, cookies, recent, etc. It will do this either when you close your browser, shut down or start up.
