Some m'boards require an additional supply to the CPU.
This is an extra connector from the power supply to a
4 pin square socket on the board usually close to the
CPU socket. My motherboard is made by MSI and has this
socket fed by four wires.

I believe that an adaptor is available that utilises a
spare power connector for a HD or CDROM and converts
it to the required four pin square.

Without this connector the motherboard is to all
intents and purposes, dead!!
