That is a difficult one to answer really because I have sometimes burned info
to a cd and found
another pc's cdrom could not read it and I think there are different formats
for burning as well.
One point that does occur to me is that your cdrom is an HP and I just wonder
if you originally used
HP software to burn the data to cd and later on installed Roxio? This whould
explain why maybe your
son can only read it with his HP writer software?
Try getting him to copy the data from the cd to his hatd drive and then using
his Roxio software to
burn the data from hard drive to a new cd, then see if your pc can read that cd?

I have a CD that I recorded some data on last year. I can't remember
for sure if I still had Win98 or XP, but I think XP. I either used XP
copy to disk or Roxio Easy CD Creator.
Yesterday, I needed the info off of this CD, however, neither Windows
Explorer nor Roxio would find the data on the disk. So, I took the
disk over to my son's who still has Win98 and he was able to read it.
Just in case, he also copied the info to a new disk and Finalized it.
However, for some reason he was not able to use Roxio to read or write
it; he had to use his HP writer software.
I still was not able to read the info on my home computer, even with
the new disk. So....I brought the disk to work (where I also have XP).
I was able to read it using Windows Explorer or any other program. I
don't have Roxio installed on this computer.
I can read other disks on my home computer, so I don't think it's my
cd drive. He had to use his HP software.
Anyone know what the problem is? Please?

P.S. Just FYI, my CD drive is a 5 year-old HP 8200.
