This question is much like the one that people ask about which type computer 
to buy. It all depends on what you want to do with your computer. It it 
still works and you don't find that things that you try to do are pushing 
it's capability, there is no reason to replace the computer. For example, if 
you mostly do email and browsing, you don't need the bleeding edge. It 
reminds me of a cartoon in my images files. An old lady is telling the 
dealer what she wants in a new computer and she lists all the latest hi 
power specs. Then she adds that she will be using it to keep track of her 
receipts.

Now if you want a more powerful machine, just because and you can afford it, 
the go for it. However many of the less than $500 machines are as powerful 
as those selling for three times that a little while ago. They say that the 
computer business is slow so you can get a good deal if you shop around. Try 
pricewatch.com
