HI Matt:
Your goals fit the A+ program better than computer
science. Computer science, simply put, focuses more
on software architecture and development. It includes
network theory and applications. It may touch on
computer (pc) hardware but most likely only to the
principles of the various hardware components with
little hands-on experience. (For instance, I took a
Networks class. The nearest I got to a router/switch
etc, was a picture of a server system.)

A+ is more of a hands-on repair technicians training
program. You will learn about the various hardware
components, their functions and how they are
interconnected. You will learn to solve maintenance
problems and maybe even build your own pc. There will
probably be some instructions on an OS (windows) but
only relating to what it does. Any programming will
be a bonus. When you have completed the A+ training
program you should be ready to take and pass the A+
certification test. Passing that test and gaining the
A+ rating merely tells a prospective employer you know
the principles and can learn to be a top-notch
technician.

I will probably get a lot of arguments on what I have
said, criticizing me for shortchanging one of the
programs. But I have tried to boil it down to simple
terms. There is really no "one" computer science
program nor "one" A+ program. You will have to read a
program's syllabus to determine exactly what is
included.

Good Luck.
