Not really, but if and when you activate XP that is when the product
# gets
recorded. I happen to have about five versions of XP. Two are pretty
much
liked to the machines they came on. I have the disks for the other
three.
Early on I had installed one copy several times and had to use the phone
activation. I think that MS has moderated their rules some since then.
When I install XP once again I sometimes forget which copy I have
installed
it on which machine and so I think I have installed the same copy on
more
than one machine, but not simultaneously. I have not had to use the
phone
activation since that one time.

You make it sound like cereal that you can pour into your computer. :-)
But I would say that the safest strategy is not to install one copy on
more than one machine at a time without a site license. I think that
there may be those who have succeeded in doing that, but I have not
tried. Ironically other software seems not to care how many machines
you install them on. I have PQ Partition Magic on two machines.
