It converts the existing FAT table into an MFT, then creates the USN journal, converts the boot record and file system type to NTFS. Convert will move and reallocate portions of the FAT filesystem to create these NTFS specific structures at key locations on the drive. Once conversion is complete Convert verifies that the FAT tables were converted correctly then, finally once the NTFS volume is ready it deletes the FAT file tables and exits. If conversion fails, which it never does, the Convert program automatically rolls back the changes as the FAT doesn't get overwritten.
