I spoke to Gateway and they no longer have rescue cd's for pc's this old. They also told me that they do not offer them separately - you can only get one with the purchase of a new pc. As it turns out my friend had one - 2000 - and it worked, so we're in good shape now. As a matter of fact I'm using that pc to reply to this message!
