> hi ; i amrestoring an old DELL 425S/L . it uses a 486 - 33 ,running > windows 95 . it has what seems to be a VRM ( voltage regulator > module )
I don't know anything about that module or anything called VRM, but computers use switching power supplies which are considered regulated, but maybe not precision. That kind of PS doesn't require a lot of 'iron' like the old electronic equipment did. Switching power supplies were similar to the TV scan derived supplies. At first they only provided that high voltage, using the 15.750 kHz horizontal sweep circuit, sometimes called a flyback power supply. Eventually the designers modified the flyback transformer to provide the other voltages as well. That eliminated the heavy power transformer. My point is that it seems unlikely that a separate regulator would be required. Jim ------------------------ Yahoo! Groups Sponsor --------------------~--> Get fast access to your favorite Yahoo!
