Hi! :)

We're experiencing bouts of lumpy electricity tonight, due to high
winds, and my old battery powered UPS is not picking up the
slack. It hasn't for a while, and as far as I can tell, the
battery's nonremovable.

The difficulty is that my room is not grounded. Part of the rest of
the house is - due to the replacement of the fuse box with a circuit
breaker after the tornado in May of '03. Dad has tried to jury-rig
the UPS a bit (it would be really expensive to ground what is
currently ungrounded), but the wiring fault light stays lit all the
time. However, the UPS did work for at least a couple of years.

It's a Cyber Power 585AVR, with 6 place for plugs (3 battery/surge, 3
surge only). I usually use all six plugs in the summer (one for a box
fan), and like having the one spare.

Is this still a good brand to get? Is it possible to get something
with batteries I could switch out, and would that feature be worth
it? I seem to remember that was a possibility in a much higher end
UPS when I bought this one. There was also a controversy on whether
or not a switchable battery was worth while.

My school paper is now finished and turned in, so losing power is not
as big of a deal as it was earlier tonight < rolls eyes >. Living
with this one is not usually a problem, but twice a year when the
weather changes, the high winds and storms come in - that's when I
think about getting a new one.

Any opinions or ideas out there?

Thanks
Theresa

Gentlemen, I believe we have much to discuss.
