WinPatrol's goal is to help you better understand what programs are running on your computer and to alert you to any new programs added without your permission. Unlike traditional security programs, WinPatrol doesn't scan your hard drive searching for previously identified threats. Instead, it uses a heuristic approach, taking a snapshot of your critical system resources, then alerting you to any changes that occur without your knowledge. Over time, programs that are added are put into the startup part of msconfig and all need to start at log on. Can someone tell me what are the basics that should be in there. Also, is there a way to automatically keep just those needed ones there in case some of the programs continually place themselves there for startup? Hope this is not too confusing.
