The ASR consists basically of the SAM, some boot files and some other portions of the registry (and logs).
It is created and updated by using the MS Backup utility. I have not found the ASR diskettes to be very useful in Windows XP because Windows Setup has many robust recovery tools and options. They were however, *very* useful with Windows NT, when they were called ERD. You created these using a command called 'rdisk'. The Windows NT Setup had no recovery tools on it except the ERD! A negative point is because the SAM is copied onto these ERD diskettes you wouldn't want them to fall into the wrong hands because the SAM files could be cracked and passwords stolen. --- In [email protected], syrose <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > I have had to format my HDD and a lot of important stuff was utterly lost. > Nothing helped and I hadn't prepared a ASR diskette. > This time, I took the necessary precaution and created one. > My question is how do I keep the ASR up-to-date? > Please I must ask for step-by-step instructions. > My OS is XP Professional. > Sincerely. > Ike > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] > ------------------------ Yahoo!
