I am running XP Home on a 2GHz Sempron with 500MB of PC2700 SDRAM on an MSI 6741 v1 motherboard and a 20GB Maxtor 7200rpm HD.
When I start my PC from cold, every program, OE, Firefox, Autoroute etc. take several long seconds to open; Paint Shop Pro 10 takes 40 seconds!! If I then close any of those programs and then re-open them they open instantly. Is it anything to do with virtual memory? I have defragged, deleted unwanted programs, scanned for viruses, adware, trojans etc. but nothing found. The system did work OK but not any more; suggestions please!
