Keep in mind that every time you use a restore point, you will lose stuff you did after that restore point except you won't lose any data. If you do a repair Re-install it's kinda like doing an XP upgrade. You do not loose your drive contents. In actual truth doing a re-install is the best and safest way with the only con being it takes almost an hour to do. Make sure you avoid anything that says "format". All this talk about Boot disc etc is more talk than utility. Windows XP acumulates corruption over time and there is usually no discoverable solution and a lot of us will do a "Clean re-install" every so often. To do that, make sure you have a good Data filing system and save the whole thing to an external media. Stuff is easy to save. It can be saved as many places as needed so you have backup copys.
