OK.  I got it figured out.  The problem I was having with copping my drive
was that I had preformatted it.  It worked after I removed the partition and
copied that way.  Getting to the "locked" files was not too hard either.  I
did get a USB adapter for the laptop drive.  I then booted into safe mode,
logged in as admin.  In windows explorer I went to the directory in
question, did a right click, went to properites.  It had an option there to
replace ownership of the files.

Kinda nice what desperation can do sometimes  ;p
