When you get a message saying "Windows is Missing" it means
something has been previously done that has removed your Operating
System FROM VIEW, usually a reformat. It is not a good sign because
it means it is probable that nothing will ever be recovered from your "C"
drive.
Highly expensive technical help might recover some but is usually not
practical.
When you get that message, "Windows is missing" it also usually
means that you have bypassed the Boot from Windows application
CD. In your case you can still reinstall Windows at any time but
likely only as a "Clean Install".
With a clean install, if there is any part of the original Operating
System left on you drive, it will be overwritten. You can try this
WITHOUT reformatting by sellecting to leave the original filling
system alone, do NOT reformat. Any changes you had made to
the original installation of Windows including Settings, my documents
and favorites will be Overwritten, gone, but you may still have
copyable Data if the drive was not previously reformatted by mistake
as above described.
YOU CAN USUALLY SEE what is left on a drive by running it as a slave
on a PC or placing it into a USB external hard drive case. If you are
losing valuable data, that is the very next thing you should do or have
someone experienced try to do for you.
To reinstall Windows, your PC MUST be set to "Boot from CDROM".
The CD will start and you will get a message for a few seconds "to boot
from the CD press any key". If you miss these steps the PC will try
to boot from the hard drive and if it cannot find the Operating system will
give you the message you got, Windows is missing or some such.
These procedures are outlined step by step at the Microsoft support
site I mentioned in my other posts.
