Dell doesn't make monitors, instead the 'brand' monitors made by other manufacturers. The higher end Dell monitors are made by SONY. These tend to be excellent and provide a long service life. Lower end Dell monitors are made by,.. well whoever can make them the cheapest. Ususally Samsung makes the lower end monitors (they even make some for NEC, a competitor!).
That said you may not find that the new Dell monitor will perform the same as the old one since they may be made by a different manufacturer. No doubt: a $1000 monitor will be of excellent quality, as most larger (21+") screen models are. --- In [email protected], "Phyllis Christian" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > My present Monitor is about 5 years old..It is a Dell 23" cost $1000.00..I > bought Dell because the previous one ran for years without a hiccup and one > day it died before my eyes..The first new Dell was a dud, but they replaced > it and knock on wood it will hang on a few more years..If it goes I will go > to LCD, much cheaper and better now..I have an early lcd monitor but it > would lose pixels and if I didn't look straight into it, it would look > clunky..--Phyllis > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Jim" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Monday, March 06, 2006 7:52 PM > Subject: Re: [A-1-Computer_Tech] Re: com[puter going to sleep? > > > > Thomas, > > > >> Monitors rating on 'wear and tear' is hours operating, so this does > >> reduce it. > > > > But as I said, my monitors, all but one, have operated for many years.
