I understand the difference but my question is "when I create these disks, is that one procedure or two?" Hi Louise: Does your OEM instructions Not describe what will be included in one option or the other? Recovery CDs or DVDs should be one continuous procedure for each of your two options. When you need to use one of these recovery sets, it should be a simple process of starting your PC from the recovery set. Where choices and input might be required in the recovery process might be determined by the contents of those sets and the location on your PC where they will need to be restored to. A complete OEM recovery will use at least one DVD or several CDs. Since I cannot see the contents of your recovery options, I can only guess that one option might be the Operating System only (XP) Recovery, and the other might be a complete recovery including Drivers and Bundled OEM programs. Certainly there will be ReadMe files, Manuals, and instructions in your OEM stuff. Recovery sets usually work by reformatting (wiping out) the drive or partition on which they will be restored and then doing a clean restoration. So, somewhere in your OEM literature you will need learn to do this right or stand a chance of loosing important stuff on your PC. Recovery Sets are designed by the OEM to return your PC to the EXACT point it was at when you purchased it. Unless you have made specific changes to your PC to protect your data in the case of a recovery, you can loose everything you added to the PC since you bought it. In your case one of your recovery options might "repair" only XP without touching your other stuff. This you can learn from your OEM data. Hope this helps.
