Hi Ken, I don't know why Word is doing this but maybe your normal.dot template is corrupt, in which case you can delete it and restart Word - when you start Word once again the normal.dot will be recreated. If you are using WinXP you will find normal.dot located here.... C:\Documents and Settings\<your user name>\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates Here is a link to Linda Johnson's website for troubleshooting MS word.... http://personal-computer-tutor.com/NNTWord.htm Hope this works, but even if it does not clear up the problem there is no harm in trying - read Linda's page, it is very helpful. _____ From: Ken Hi, I wonder if anyone can help with this: Whenever I want to apply formatting to a document in Word, I encounter problems. Say I want to italicise a phrase - I highlight the word or phrase and click on the italic button on the formatting toolbar, or simply press Ctrl/i. The phrase does indeed change to italics, but very often (not always) so does the whole rest of the document. I then have to click on the Undo button on the toolbar, which results in the new formatting being undone, leaving just the single phrase italicised. Now that's not a big problem in itself, until you find you need to change the formatting of the headings of many sections, to perhaps italic, bold, and a larger font size and style. It means I have to apply each and every change and carefully undo each one too, to get the effect. And it sometimes seems too much for the program too, and the entire document starts to lose any coherent formatting. I've tried repairing any glitches, by putting in the disk and selecting the repair option, to no avail. Now I've gone one better and uninstalled Office completely, which I was sure would do away with the problem. Then I reinstalled it from scratch. The problem, strangely, is still there. And it's driving me mad! Anyone got any idea how to fix this? Or even, what's causing it? It's being going on for a while, and I've been putting up with it, but I really do need to get this sorted now. If I can't, I think I'll ditch Word altogether and use Open Office, which I did try a while ago, and found impressive. Thanks for any help or suggestions. --Ken . <http://geo.yahoo.com/serv?s=97359714&grpId=231864&grpspId=1600115386&msgId= 32525&stime=1156508251&nc1=3911046&nc2=3848629&nc3=3858788> [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] If you have any questions or problems with any aspect of this site, please feel free to contact me directly [EMAIL PROTECTED] Please do not post personal issues directly to the group.
