Windows does some garbage collecting that just gets worst as time goes
on. Many changes such as software and hardware changes always leave
traces in the registry. What that means is that the registry gets larger
as time goes on. It may even be stored on several different locations on
your hard drive.
While that by itself might not seem like much, consider that we also run
anti virus software, play music or videos and always have several
windows open at once. Your computer is already working hard. You don't
need the extra garbage hanging around and always slowing down your
computer.
Of course, it does help to get rid of the many issues that always seem
to pop up. I recommend reinstalling at least every other year. :-D
