Hi all:
The "TaskBar" is a special Windows tool bar that by default lies in a
single row along the bottom of the screen. This task bar is of absolute and
immense importance to many users of Windows. Unfortunately it is very under
utilized by most users. Probably because it's use is very complex, requires
a
lot of setting up and is not well explained in Windows documentation.
There are four (4) parts to the Taskbar. Starting from the left the first
is the "Start button". Left clicking this button presents the start menu.
But, right clicking brings up another menu that opens a multitude of other
choices. Then clicking "properties" will allow one to change settings to
suit
his needs. These settings will allow one to change the start menu as well.
Maybe the best way to appreciate the Taskbar is to experiment with these
settings. Among other things, the Taskbar can be moved to any margin on ones
display. It can be resized and it can control ones whole PC with as little as
one click. Icons in the Taskbar are ONLY shortcuts.
The second part is the "Quick Launch". The Quickl Launch can be set to open
ANY program or file on ones PC. Anything that goes into the QL is ONLY a
shortcut and the original is never changed. One can drag stuff in OR out or
delete it. Left clicking an icon will open the program or file it represents.
Right clicking any icon in the QL will present a menu with choices. Some
program installations will often place icons in the QL, sometimes without
asking. It needs to be set up. You must set the taskbar to RUN. You can
change
the size of the Taskbar or the size of it's icons, or the appearance of the
it's icons. It can be set to always open and stay on top of everything else
so that regardless what is open on the desktop the Taskbar will always be
visable.
The third section is...... a "running Window and Program control" section
and is automatically controlled by Windows. Every running window or program
will place a button in this section. Left clicking a button will hide it's
window, or if it is already hidden, it will open it on top. Right clicking
a button will present a menu with options including "Closing" the program.
The fourth and last section is the "Notification" (sometimes called "System
Tray") and will show the clock (if asked) and it will show icons for every
program or utility that runs automatically on ones PC if set to do so.
Clicking one of the icons will present a menu dealing with information or
settings for that program. Icons can be set to hide or show. Again one opens
Properties and customize.
Right clicking any blank spot on the taskbar and going to properties will
allow one to change settings. For the Quicklaunch settings one must first
"unlock" the taskbar and then right clicking the Quicklaunch area for the
settings menu.
I Think a good book about the TaskBar is needed. bye
Emile
