There are a few things more than that. Apparently when XP gets installed in
second place it will wipe out the Vista boot information, and you need to
rebuild it or Vista won't boot. Partitioning the drive is the easy part.
When the OEM built the Vista Machine they could have, and probably did, use
newly designed hardware that could have drivers for Vista only. You could be
ok if you can install the Vista drivers into the XP installation, but will
the Vista drivers work with XP?
I've never had problems dualbooting Vista on an XP machine but if XP
is ever reinstalled it will wipe out Vista's boot. That's ok because you can
use the Vista DVD recovery feature to replace the Vista MBR. Both XP and
Vista can be partitioned in DOS using Diskpart.
If anyone goes to that site they will find a wealth of dual booting
instructions for various OS combinations. This is an absolutely large site,
and it turns out that I just got into it by the back door. Turns out it is a
$50 million dollar 50/50 enterprise between Microsoft and Australia. There
is some absolutely great reading within. Some of the features found amongst
