You guys have been so helpful with your advice, I was hoping
to pay you back. Here's something you might find useful
someday, if it ever happens to you.

One morning my Internet connection went south. I pulled the
connection plug on the modem, waited 30 seconds and then
reconnected the plug. That's what I usually do when there's
a problem, and it usually works. This time it didn't.

I finally had to call Comast, my provider. I got one of
those idiot techies who concluded that I would have to call
Firefox, my browser provider. I said I also used Internet
Explorer and it didn't work. Made no difference to him.
Something must be wrong either with the browser or my
computer itself. Their office showed that Comcast was
sending me data. Had to be my fault.

I slammed down the phone, collected myself and decided to
call Comcast again. This time I got a voice that sounded
bright, friendly and knowledgeable. The guy pinpointed my
problem in a second. He noted that the PC light on my modem
was dark as well as the data light. And here's what he told
me to do:

• In the Control Panel, click on Network Connections
• Right click Local Area Connection
• If the first item in the list reads: Enable, click on it.
The connection should be enabled (manually).
• If the first item reads: Disabled, that means the
connection is already enabled. You need to look elsewhere
for assistance.

Anyway, it worked. So simple, and perhaps obvious to the
more knowledgable among you.I However, keep that advice handy,
just in case.
