To do this quickly, do a complete reinstall. Backup what you want to save on a
Disc [DVD or CD]. Do all of your Microsoft Updates then your flash / shockwave
players, Windows Defender. Then Netframework 1.0, IE7. Complete any other
updates.

it comes to this....
Suffice to say that I am a novice at computer jargon, but I'll do the
best I can.
For several weeks, I was having problems with my computer restarting
when trying to shut it down; last week, it restarted, but would not
move past the Windows welcome screen; I couldn't access anything.
Last Monday, I performed a system recovery on my computer. I have
Windows XP home edition. This action backed up my files and folders,
but required that I re-install the internet cable modem, flash and
shockwave players, Java, etc. I went to the ISP provider and got a
new installation disc, which seems to be the appropriate disc for my
modem. I have internet explorer 6.
I re-installed the internet and can access all websites, but
something's still wrong. The Yahoo welcome page, for instance (and
every web page I looked at), has a solid white background with no
borders or buttons, the fonts are HUGE, the links are disorganized,
overlap one another, and are in the wrong places. It looks horrible!
The AOL browser looks terrible, also. Only the Mozilla browser makes
the internet appear somewhat "normal", as in, the fonts are smaller,
the page is more organized, and the links don't overlap, but the
background colors and templates still do not show up, and some buttons
do not show up at all, but when you pass over where they should be
with the cursor, the dotted line around the button will show up. Such
is the case with every website I visit.
I tried upgrading to internet explorer 7 briefly, and that did seem to
help a bit at first, but like mozilla, there were still no background
colors. However, this action did seem to resolve the big text and
disorganization with all the browsers. A tech at HP told me to
uninstall IE 7 and go back to IE 6. This just made everything as it
was in all the browsers.... big and overlapping text, disorganization,
missing background templates, etc.; only Mozilla looks somewhat
"normal", but without the pretty colors.
As far as other things are concerned, movies play fine, GIFs and
photos show up.
I am at a loss and have very limited funds to spend on computer
wizards so close to Christmas! As I make my living on Ebay, I am
desperate, for I have already lost a week of selling on trying to
resolve this issue! Can someone please help me?
Thanks,
Traci
