Lydia I will expand on Ivan's brief response. I am not sure I understand your HSI reference being a Brit but if that is a telephone supply then the Router is the hardware piece you want from Radio Shack or elsewhere. I bought mine from eBay at a fraction of the cost. Radio Shack online lists a similar Netgear one for $39.99
The Router needs to have in built wireless and modem so watch what you buy. You must only place the router close enough to the phone line to plug it in but the laptop with a built in wireless card, can go anywhere within about 30m. You can alternatively plug an Ethernet cable into one of four such ports on the router and connect direct to the computer, but this restricts you by cable length. Come back for any help I can offer. -------Original Message------- From: lydia Date: 22/12/2007 00:19:12 To: [email protected] Subject: [A-1-Computer_Tech] new question first thanks to everyone in the group for helping with whatever question/problem i bring to them. a while back a asked a question about laptops, and while i haven't decided yet if i will get a laptop or just another computer i am going to start looking around after the holiday. my question to the group however is this: i live in a very rural area and we have only (with in the last 3 months) gotten HSI through the phone company. until then we had to deal with dial up which was slower than molasses. when i get my second computer is there anyway to connect to the internet using the same HSI set up or do i need to get it its own set up? someone had told me i could buy something from radio shak ( sorry i do not remember what the piece was called) that would let another computer connect with my family computer wireless, but since the machine will not be in the same rooms is this possible. as i said with my very first post i know little about computers and what i do know i learned from reading or hearing about it so thank you all for be so patient and helpful. lyne [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] If you have any questions or problems with any aspect of this site, please feel free to contact me directly [EMAIL PROTECTED] Please do not post personal issues directly to the group.
