What I intended to convey to Walter and others who may be intersted, was that I had downloaded the free DriveImageXML from http://www.runtime org/dixml.htm This will backup the whole C: drive top an MXL file and a * Dat file which can be browsed and or restored later.
This program seems to do much the same as Norton Ghost, but free instead of paying about $40. But because my computer environment changes by the minute, mainly through my use as a test machine and by the transfer of photographs and my web site building activities I carry out two other safeguard processes. I use a Synchronization program that maintains identical " My Document" folders between my desktop and laptop computers. This is SychBackSE , but the freeware version from http://www.2brightsparks.com/downloads HTML#freeware I also use Comodo Backup from http://www.2brightsparks.com/downloads html#freeware to do a straight regular daily backup of the C: drive. All these backups go to a slave hard drive.
