Hi Ian, I tried this first but to no avail. As I said in my email I ended up removing French from an enabled language.
Any other thoughts? Change the default language setting You can change your default settings in Microsoft Office to have them match the default settings of a different language. On the Microsoft Windows Start menu, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Office Tools, and then click Microsoft Office XP Language Settings. Click the Enabled Languages tab. In the Default version of Microsoft Office box, select the language you want and then click OK. A message appears describing the effects of the change. I don't think it is an always thing but certainly always with some files. I cannot tell for sure if this problem is limited to certain documents or if it is now for everything. My spell checker was not detecting the correct language and it was impossible to change the language on spell check and to accept english (it thought I was using French). My thesaurus also thinks I am using French??? I removed French from my list of enabled languages in Microsoft Office Language Settings and manually set English as my default language in word (tools, language, set language). This fixed (? I think) my thesaurus. My spell checker will now accept English as the language but the readability statistics come out in French? I tried to search on the internet for this problem but could not find any answers. Anyone have any suggestions?
