Hi:
There are different advantages with both.......External Hard drives will  
copy their data to any Computer with USB  but they need to be moved from  one 
to 
the other.   The program that created the data,  or a  suitable substitute,  
needs to be installed on each computer.  Some  programs need another license.  
     With these "reverse cables"  you can carry on  a two way communication 
as a LAN  Network connection.  Also you can  use Thumb drives.  I just bought a 
16GB one from Staples for $49.95  CDN.  That's a lot of data.  Bye
