That's very weird - a camera. I dunno, here's some things I would try:
1. I'm assuming the external case is powered and plugged into an
electrical outlet. If you're plugging the drive into a USB hub, try
plugging it into a port on the back of the PC instead.
2. Take a look in Device Manager. Any little yellow !'s on any devices?
Especially the USB controllers? Unplug all USB devices (except mouse
and keyboard) and "remove" the USB controllers from Device Manager.
Reboot and wait for Windows to "find" the new hardware and re-install
the drivers - might take a minute or 2 at the desktop to finish.
3. Try setting the jumper on the drive to Master (if it's EIDE). On
newer enclosures it usually doesn't matter, but if it's an older drive
the jumper might have to be Master.
4. See if the drive is showing in Disk Management. Right-click on
MyComputer, choose Manage, Then choose Storage, then Disk Management. If
it shows there, right-click it and format it. (DON'T FORMAT YOUR C;
DRIVE by accident!!! heh).
5. You can look in registry (Start, Run, Regedit) under: HKLM, System,
CurrentControlSet, Enum, and see if that camera is listed there as a
device. Have you 'ever' had a camera connected to USB? If you are brave
you can try deleting its key - that should definitely eliminate it from
showing up anymore. But do it at your own risk - editing the registry
can fry your windows installation. :-)
Good luck,
Donk
