I think it's hard to tell. You have to judge on a site-by-site basis.
I would think most sites would probably be legal - but check out their
selection of songs or movies before you subscribe. They might only
offer a very few, unpopular songs or movies.
To be sure, you could always stick with the major providers of music, like:
Amazon
I-tunes
Rhapsody
Napster
Emusic.com
Walmart.com
And for Movies try Netflix or Blockbuster.
