First you gotta be sure your modem/router is successfully connected?  
Then, if you're using XP or Vista, your PC should automatically find the 
network and connect you (the first time you'll probably have to enter 
your router's WEP key and password.  If you see the little computer icon 
in the sys tray (lower right of the screen) right-click it and choose 
"view available wireless networks".  You should get a list of any 
networks in your neighborhood (including your own).  Highlight your own 
and click the "connect" button.
