All I can do is describe my password strategy. I never use plain
language words that can be found in a dictionary. People on TV shows
who claim to be 'expert' simply show their ignorance, or that of the
script writer.
One thing that you can do is to create a sentence and use the first
letter of each word as the password. If there are numbers in the
sentence that helps to get a numeric mix. I'm no security expert, I
just listen to the security experts. No matter how clever you think
that your plain language password is, it probably is NOT. Also, the
longer the password the more characters that must be guessed. And the
hackers to not guess, they us password guessing software. Actually,
those programs must try a lot of passwords in very little time.
Another comment about TV computer characters. On NCIS the two computer
geeks said that a bad guy stored some secret data in ram. But of
course ram won't store anything when the power goes down. They said
something about the boot sector. But it the data is there is need not
be saved to ream on startup.
