Subject: [A-1-Computer_Tech] HELP! Malware? "Antivirus Pro 2009"

Hi All

Major problem here computer wizards.

Long time lurker and sometimes poster. I was on a, shall we say adult
pic site last night and suddenly my windows explorer turned off, and the
computer shut down and then booted itself back up. When it came back on
a pop-up window told me that it was infected and to click the balloon to
install a windows program to take care off the problem. I couldn't open
my anti-virus program(AVG) or my anti-spyware programs(Spybot &
Ad-ware).

At one point like a fool I clicked the message balloon and it
downloaded(extracte d?) a program called "Anti Virus Pro 2009" and a very
professional window pops up telling me I can purchase this program. It
won't let me open or download malware or anti-spyware. It changed my
home page to Google but it lurks in the background and if I try to go to
these sites it just opens another window which tries to get me to open
links for other programs to buy. The only way to go to (real)Google is
to enter it directly in the address window and hit enter. The only way
to go to the anti-virus, spyware, malware sites in Google then is to
copy the actual address from the Google list and paste and hit enter
again. It won't let me download, update or use anything. I'm stumped...
Any ideas?

I'm running Windows XP on a 2 ghz machine with 500megs RAM.

I saw at one site how to manually get rid of it and gave a list of files
to delete but when I went to search and looked for those files I
couldn't find many of them and some I found it wouldn't let me delete.
It also gave a list to delete from the registry. Being as old as I am I
can't even remember how to get to the registry.

Sorry for the long rambling post but has anyone heard of or had any
problems with this monster. I'm at my office right now. I thought I
might come in here and download a few programs that I might use from my
D drive at home. Or get some knowledge to print out about what to do.
Thanks for listening guys. Any ideas?

Ron
