Most laptops have a function that locks the use of the function keys. Maybe that's what happened - you accidentally pressed the key combo to lock the Fkeys. Look closely at the row of function keys and see if you see any indication or mention of something like F-lock. If so, pressing this key and another key (possibly the Fn key?) might un-lock your function keys. You should also check the manual. It will describe all the different hotkey combos and what they do.
