Gratz on the new PC. I'm guessing your new PC already has Windows installed - and you just wanna get your personal data files off the old HD? There's a couple ways to do that: 1. buy a cheap external drive enclosure like this: http://amzn.to/ftdkvm You put your old drive into it, plug it into any USB port, and you'll be able to see the old drive listed in Win Explorer. Just copy paste any files you want. 2. You can take the old HD, open the case of the new PC, and connect the old drive to an available cable and power supply cable. Then, like above, it'll show up in Win Explorer. But... there might be some complications like:
does the new PC have any available SATA or IDE cables (whichever the old drive is). also, if the old drive is IDE you might have to change the drive jumpers to either master or slave - depending on your new PC's config. So, really the simplest way would be to buy an enclosure. First figure out what size and form factor your old drive is. 3.5" or 2.5", and is it SATA or IDE? You have to buy an enclosure that matches your drive. I've seen enclosures in Microcenter stores for as little as $6. So shop around online. Good luck, Donk Tom M. wrote: > Decided to get a new computer. Is there an easy way to copy data from the > old HD to the new computer?
