I would guess you could use any of the socket 775 dual core chips - I think they went up to about E4700. But... I would never attempt the upgrade without being sure the Motherboard BIOS will accept the chip. If you look at the Gateway site for your PC you'll see 1 bios upgrade is available (if your PC is older than July 2010). http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/1009562/1009562nv.shtml But there's no mention of what's in the upgrade. BIOS updates usually would include support for faster processors, but you never know. Also, it appears the actual manual for your computer isn't available either. I would try to email Gateway support and ask exactly what processors are supported by your mobo. (it looks like your mobo is made by intel and called Coconut Creek?)
