It's been years since I messed with DOS and batch files.
I think that to ouput error messages to a file you have to use a special 
STDERR command to tell DOS to stream the error messages into the STDOUT 
stream?
Maybe something like this:
command > &> >  logfile.txt
or, for an open ended log file:
command >> &> logfile.txt

You can google "dos error redirect command" and find the exact syntax.
