Can you post the exact wording of the error? I think "fatal installation" might be a Windows error (not java). I would try updating the Windows Installer: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893803 After doing that, reboot and try uninstalling your current Java from Control Panel, Add-Remove Programs. Then close any open programs. Then try the Java download and install again.
