It might be the backlight lamp, but since you say it the monitor works 
fine for the first few moments - the backlight might be ok.  Or it could 
be the inverter.  Or it could be a lot of other stuff.  You can probably 
find parts on ebay, but without knowing the exact part that's defective 
you might be wasting money trying to figure it out.
It's pretty common for the inverter to go bad.
