Well, the symptoms you mentioned could be a lot of things. One thing... 
def get the chipset drivers from the Dell support site for your exact 
model number. Doesn't matter how old they are - the motherboard is the 
exact same as it ever was.  Only new thing is the refurb HD - and it 
doesn't need drivers.
Check in Device Manager.  Gotta get rid of any red X's or yellow !'s, etc.
After that see if it improves and repost.
