Usually a failure to resume from sleep mode is caused by a conflict with
a device driver or background program that is running. Sometimes a USB
device that is plugged in will cause it to not wake up. And sometimes a
conflict between Windows' power settings and the BIOS power settings
will cause the problem.
Some things to try:

Try booting into Safe Mode and seeing if it recovers from sleep. Press
power and keep rapidly tapping the F8 key till you see the boot menu.
Choose "Safe Mode" and boot to the safe mode desktop. Let it go to
sleep as usual and see if it wakes up ok. If so, then USB is not the prob.

Try disabling the BIOS suspend or sleep function and let Windows handle
it. Check you manual to see how to enter BIOS/CMOS setup. I think you
press power and rapidly tap the F2 (or maybe F12) key till you see a
menu to enter setup. Once in setup look for the Power Management
options (might be called ACPI or something else). Disable any sleep or
hibernate functions. Save the changes and exit setup. Try it now. (If
this fails, you could try putting the BIOS settings back, and disabling
the "Windows" power management settings for sleep or suspend.)

If both those ideas fail repost. You can start checking for any
background apps that might be causing the problem.

Good luck,
Donk
