Are you talking about a DVD? Or an external Hard Drive?
If it's a hard drive:
you can try just ignoring the error and see if you can copy your
files over anyway. I've heard of people having success doing this.

You can try running a checkdisk on the drive. Just run it from
within windows as usual but point it to whatever letter the external
drive is. Be sure to tell it to auto-fix errors.

Also you can try plugging the hd into a different computer to see
if you get the crc error. Could be a prob with your USB port or
controller - I've had this happen on my own machine, and the files read
fine on a different computer.

If ;you are talking about crc errors on a DVD or CD on an internal
optical drive... I dunno of of a fix - other than clean the disk really
good.

Good luck,
Donk
PS: I don't know any free recovery app. Maybe someone else will - or you
should post to a forum with more traffic than this one.
