Donk had to run security scan twice but it seems to be working properly now. What I am not sure of how to do is install explorer 9, I downloaded the upgrade but it tells me can not continue because there is another version being used. How do I delete all of explorer and still get on line. I feel stupid asking this I know it is easy. Thank you Teresa

Having your browser redirect you to pages other than the ones you want is a definite, classic, sign of an infection. I'm guessing that the pages it takes you to are maybe link farms (pages full of nothing but links), or maybe anti-virus software offers? At any rate, having your browser redirected is almost a sure sign of a virus or malware on your PC. And these things always get worse until eventually you won't be able to do anything on the computer. The first thing I would do is to backup any personal files - like pictures, music, documents, email, bookmarks, etc. that you wouldn't want to lose. Back them up onto a thumb drive, or external hard drive, or cloud site, etc. Whatever you have available. It's very rare that malware will jump onto a backup drive, so you should be ok backing them up. Next, I would reboot into Safe Mode and run a "FULL" scan with MS Security Essentials. Don't do the "quick" scan. The full scan can take hours - maybe 3 or 4 - but it will find things the quick scan will miss. To get into Safe Mode shut down, then press the power button and immediately start quickly tapping the F8 key till you see a boot menu. Choose Safe Menu and you'll be taken to the Safe Mode desktop. From here just click on the MS Security Essentials icon, and choose the FULL scan option. When it's done you'll get a report and can choose to clean the infections it finds. Then you can reboot into normal Windows and hopefully you'll be ok. But... in my experience with browser hijackers, you might not be able to clean the infections, and will have to reformat the hard drive to be 100% sure you are clean. Luckily, most Toshiba models include a hidden hard drive partition that will let you restore the laptop to factory defaults in a matter of a few clicks and 15 or 20 minutes. Be aware that doing this will restore the laptop to the exact state it was the day you bought it out of the box. Any programs, or data, you've added since then will be gone forever. So, you'll have to re-install any programs you want that didn't come installed on the laptop. Doing this might seem drastic, but there are 2 wonderful benefits: 1. any malware or viruses will be absolutely nuked and gone! 2. any accumulated junk or garbage programs that have accumulated on the laptop over the years will be gone, and the machine will run like it did the day you got it shiny and new! But... let's hope that the virus scan will clean you up. If you have any questions... just repost.
