Hi - I don't have a lot of experience with different models or brands. But I bought an Antec cooler pad and was quite amazed at how well it works. Here it is on Amazon.com: http://amzn.to/10rQyHZ It has 2 70mm fans that draw hot air from the bottom of the laptop and blow it mostly out the sides of the cooler. Mostly I use it sitting on a desk or other surface, but it can be used on your lap too. Gets all its power from a USB port, and runs pretty quiet. Cooling pads without fans are a lot cheaper but I've never tried one so I can't comment on them. But this pad works really well for me.
