You can certainly try uninstalling and reinstalling FF. I "think" FF will automatically move your booksmarks to the new installation - but just to be safe... use FF's "import and backup" feature to backup the bookmarks. It will create one file in the location of your choosing, with a .json file extension. It's easy to re-import them into the new FF. You might have to reinstall any extensions or plugins, but the new FF install will usually help you do this. FF is pretty smart. :-)
A glitch like you describe might be caused by FF not shutting down properly. If FF doesn't shut down correctly it will think it crashed and then open to your last session - a convenience feature. When you close FF be sure to give it a few seconds to totally close itself. Also, I would check to be sure it is closing completely by checking to see if the FF process is shut down. You didn't mention your windows version, but open FF and press Control/Alt/Delete to open Task Manager. Click on the Processes tab. You'll find the FF process in the list. Now, close FF and see if the process disappears. If not, right-click it and choose to end the process. Give it a few seconds and reopen FF. You should see your normal homepage. I guess the normal fix for this would be to reinstall FF anyway, but at least you've narrowed down the problem and can repost with that info.
