So the psu fan comes on, but absolutely nothing else happens?  It def 
could be the motherboard.  The psu checks itself and if it has no probs 
it sends an "ok" signal to the mobo to go ahead and boot. So the mobo is 
a prime suspect.  Usually it'll do a series of beeps?
Sometimes a device attached to the mobo might cause it.
I would remove everything but cpu, ram, vid card,  keyboard and mouse - 
and see if you get any action at all.  If so then I'd add the device 
back one at a time to find the cause.
