Hi Everyone

I am curious as to who of you are using FPGAs to compute tables & what
boards and speeds you are getting.

The Xilinx Spartan-3 FPGA boards are similarly priced to a decent CUDA
graphics card so I am very interested in the performance comparison.

I have zero experience with FPGAs but this these seems like a good time
learn something at a reasonably low cost for the cheaper FPGAs and they
look like they are going to be of major relevance to a couple of
projects in this area and also other crypto.

How difficult is it to get the code running for the FPGAs with no PFGA
experience but experience in compiling and running source code in
general.

I know other people have asked this previously but I don't think it ever
got answered, I am guessing for our purposes the PCI-E slot speed is
pretty irrelevant so the fact that the slot I can but a 2nd GTX 275 GPU
into is only 2x would make have no impact on performance for use with
CUDA number crunching ?

Has anyone done this and if so what sort of figures are you getting
generating tables using 2x GPUs on 2 separate PCI-E slots to generate a
single table, as opposed to generating 2 tables concurrently.

My other interest is that there seem to be a few people working on
hardware designs to address the cost and limitations of the USRP which
is great.

But I will confess I am a bit bemused by the timescales being issued for
hardware to be ready, with so many companies now offering cheap
prototyping and PCB services why does it need to take 6 to 12 months to
get a handful of boards available for testing and using ?

The main issues I seem to understand regarding the USRP is the clock
which can be hacked and solved and also the bandwidth limits of the USB
2, ( Is this correct ? )

Would it be possible to hack the USRP to add a USB 3 port and overcome
the data bandwidth limitations we currently have?

Does anyone know if Ettus plan on addressing these limitations in a
newer release and if so is likely to happen any time soon?

Kind Regards
