I use PaintShop Pro (http://www.jasc.com/) at work which costs about $100.
Probably also counts as overkill for music editing, but
at is affordable and is a fairly good graphical editor.
It can load and save the majority of graphics file formats including
PostScript. The only snag is when you load PostScript, you have
to choose a resolution and edit as a raster (bitmap) image.
Any scaleable vector information in the PostScript file is lost.
I imagine this limitation is acceptable for most uses - just
select a resolution at least as high as the best your printer
can manage and you won't notice the difference.
