This isn't quite how I'd put it -- my idea was that if there was an

Slowly. Basically, the way Michael has the abc2ps source set up isn't
really suitable for multi-person development, and so far nobody has
had the energy to rewrite it.

The best thing would be any open source package that worked on all
platforms and was being actively maintained . Right now YAPS is the
closest thing to this we have, but it's still pretty new and has some
major problems with some of the features I use heavily in abc2ps.
Another thing we need pretty badly is an interface to a more
full-featured music publishing system, like MusiXTeX or lilypond. We
used to have abc2mtex, but I haven't heard of anyone even feeling
guilty about not maintaining it lately. So I've been experimenting
with abc2ly (the converter to lilypond), and will be trying out
noteedit (a sequencer that imports and exports MusiXTeX, and imports
MIDI). This is an open source project, so it might be possible to add
support for importing and exporting ABC.
